Time For A Reboot?
I recently went to my naturopath, Dr. Kate Hunter, an intuitive and wise healer, and as we discussed how I was feeling depleted she said, “there are too many tabs open in your brain.”
I love that analogy of the brain like a computer and when you have too many programs running at once, it moves more slowly or shuts down to reboot. It offered me a frame of reference that has helped me take pause before I take on another task or agree to something that really doesn’t work for me. What if I focused on what I need in order to be able to reboot instead?
Now that we’re back from the holidays which can be a very stressful time of year, some of you may feel restored if you had a nice break, but others may return more drained than they were before.
Some questions to contemplate…
Do you take enough time to support your well-being?
Do you have enough activities that bring you joy and fun?
Do you check in with your emotional self and ask how you’re doing?
Do you feel isolated or are you connecting with some form of positive community?
Do you spend too much time on activities and relationships that drain you?
Are the tabs you’re keeping open the ones that align with your priorities
and how you want to live?
The New Year is often a time of making resolutions, but we suggest this year to take a pause and self-reflect before you inundate yourself with more tasks. We’re not discouraging quitting a bad habit or eating better but rather approaching self-care as a basic necessity for you to thrive. When self-care is woven into your recipe for living it is likely to become part of your scaffolding and once it’s in place you will be less likely to take it down.
We often forget to nurture our souls, our emotional self, our sense of purpose and meaning. The day to day bustle overtakes the time to even contemplate these essential aspects of self but they are crucial to experiencing your vitality and ensuring that you step off the treadmill and into a more intentional way of engaging with your life.
Wishing you a bright start to the New Year!
